Hello and welcome to The Jaywalker Blog. My name is Bob Ferguson; I am the founder and CEO of Jaywalker Lodge, a drug and alcohol treatment rehab center in Carbondale, CO.
Jaywalker Lodge provides an extended stay 12-Step immersion program for motivated men ages 23 and over. Through education, individual and group therapy, mountain expeditions and daily 12-Step meetings, clients engage in a vital spiritual experience which is indispensable to personal growth and long term sobriety.
STEP ONE of The 12 Steps is an ongoing process for clients at Jaywalker. A firm foundation in this step is not just a good idea – it is essential. Most clients do not return to treatment for the second, third, or even fourth time because they didn’t earnestly try to stay sober; or they didn’t do a Fourth Step; or they did not have a sponsor… Clients return to treatment, we believe in large part, because they have never fully personalized Step One!
Our name is based on the term “Jaywalker” from page 37 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous; it’s a story we affectionately know as the “Jaywalker Parable.” The story is succinct and real to anyone in the recovery community: Addiction is characterized by a cunning and powerful mental obsession that leads us back to drinking or using once again, always somehow expecting a more manageable outcome. Jaywalking, if you will. More here.
